Somalia: Elections will not take place as Scheduled

Mogadishu, Somalia:  According to a reliable sources the Somali electoral commission decided to postpone Presidential elections in Somalia to December four months after the current government’s mandate expires.

Parliamentary and senate members election is scheduled October and November this year  instead of holding it on August.

The Independent Electoral Commission cited the country’s readiness and security concerns as the reason for the delay.

Somali political analyst  told Banadir Post “Postponement is pure politics. “ The current government is clearly in deep waters, so desperately needed to buy time and try to regain steam. The timing of the postponement, the untenable reasons advanced for it and particularly the underhand methods by which the electoral Commission was selected, all leave no doubt that it was driven by narrow political interests rather than national security considerations.”
