Cease Fire Collapses 25 killed, 100 injured in militia clashes in Mudug

According to a hospital source and residents, at least 25 people were killed when two militia from Galudug and Puntland clashed in the outskirt of Galkayo city, Somalia.  About 100 others were injured during the fighting Sunday morning in the central town of Galkayo, which is divided between the two regions.

“Today’s clashes were the deadliest ones in a single day here in Galkayo,” medical official Abdiqani Mohamed told reporters.

It’s was last week when the leaders of Galmudug and Puntland signed a peace deal and agreed on a cessation of hostility between both sides in UAE, it’s unknown what triggered for the warring factions to fight again.

Galkayo is currently run by two competing governments, which has led to ongoing tension in the area.

Two weeks ago, ten people were killed in similar clashes, after Galmudug accused Puntland of creating a livestock market in its part of the city.

Tens of thousands have fled the area in past months, according to the United Nations.
